Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) Membership

  • ESA will audit electrical work carried out by ACP contractors
  • Electrical permits are taken out by the person/contractor carrying out the work.
  • ACP (Authorized Contractor Program) contractors must maintain $2,000,000 of liability insurance in order to maintain their ACP status.
  • ACP contractors have the benefit of 24 hour turnaround time on processing applications. (This means that the inspection date can be scheduled any weekday regardless of the inspectors availability for that area.)

    Regular Inspections Required for Membership

    If your home or site is selected by the ESA for the physical inspection of a small job, the inspector will contact you to arrange access. All regular inspections are scheduled by us, your ACP contractor.

    Authorized Contractor Program (ACP) is the key to electrical safety. ACP contractors are members in good standing with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) who have consistently performed code-compliant work.

    On July 1, 2006 provincial licensing was introduced under Regulation 570/05. The regulation defines the requirements to obtain an Electrical Contractor and Master Electrician License to operate an electrical contracting business in Ontario.
